Arose from World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne
“Generation Benedict”, a network of young adults from all over the world, is a result emanated from World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne.
The representatives of “Generation Benedict” are young adults who align their life with the catholic faith at its entire scope/margin and who are poised to avow and explain their faith and hence the resulting conviction in public.
Enthusiastic about the Pope and the Catholic Church
“Generation Benedict” is a worldwide operating network. It represents in media those millions of young adults who want to express at the World Youth Days as well as in social life their positive, supporting attitude towards Pope Benedict XVI. and towards the Roman Catholic Church.
These young adults are like all young people in search for answers to the questions of personal and social life. On their search for truth they do not refuse the approved authorities. In fact “Generation Benedict” wants to understand the point of view of authorities like the Roman Catholic Church and aims to make it more accessible to other people. The Holy Father indisputably constitutes one of these authorities and hence is the center of reference of “Generation Benedict”.
Inspired by John Paul II.
“Generation Benedict” has modeled themselves on the descendent Pope John Paul II. because he appeared to be an inspiration to all representatives of the network in an essential manner for both faith and the philosophical thoughts that are connected to him.
The dependence on John Paul II. should provide commitment as well as identification.
International
The origin of the representatives - Germany, France, Italy, USA and Mexico -– reflects the internationality and universality of the Catholic Church.
“Generation Benedict” would like to channel the focus in the discussion about the Church and its role to the worldwide Catholic Church which is vivid and is not reduced to the German Church and its problems.
Therefore “Generation Benedict” strives to establish the network in countries all over the world according to their need and specific standards. We welcome you to join “Generation Benedict” and contact “Generation Benedict” if you would like to be provided with more information.
International / Development
Since the date of its founding in Germany in 2005 the media network Generation Benedict has grown not only in Germany but has gained international standing.
The book “Generation Benedict. Questions of young people - answers in the spirit of the Pope.” originally published in German in February 2007 has been translated and is available in a Spanish and Polish edition as well.
The Spanish publication was the first project of Generation Benedict Spain whose members aligned themselves to form a network and speak as the young voice of the Catholic Church in Spanish media.
We are proud to soon publish a French and Italian version of the book and in the near future an English edition as well.
